Let’s talk colour palettes
The excitement a wedding brings is undeniable, but it also comes with a lot of pressures and can be extremely daunting for some. With larger scale events, there is an awful lot to take into consideration when you begin the planning process: the logistics of when and where the ceremony will take place, who to invite, what to focus on, all with the stress of budgets looming in the air. As a floral designer, one of my earliest questions is - what is the colour scheme? Is that something you have already thought about, or is it something that has maybe been overlooked?
Coming up with a colour palette that works for you and your venue massively helps with the flow of the day, from your initial ceremony to the evening celebrations. Having a singular ‘look’ or style for your wedding as a whole will help you considerably when making decisions such as outfits, tableware, invitations etc.
This is not to say that you have to limit yourselves to only one or two colours. In fact, you could have two or three bolder colours alongside a handful of more muted shades, or you might have a palette centred aound a favourite colour. There is no right or wrong.
Let’s assume you’ve already booked the venue…
What is the setting or backdrop?
Is it a heavily green and lushous environment, and is this something you would like to lean into? Or perhaps the venue is located on the coastline with crashing waves and rocky cliffsides. Are there particular colours that can be seen at the venue that you would like to bring focus to? Alternatively, you might be after a strong contrast, and opt for bright and bold pinks against a neutral backdrop.
What style are you aiming for?
Are you going all out with an elegant manor house, going city chic, or are you planning a more rustic wedding set in the countryside? Which colours match your style?
Is there a particular flower that you would like to see featured at your wedding?
You might have a favourite flower, or a flower that holds significance. This could be something to take into account when deciding on a colour scheme.
Why does it matter to me?
I find it incredibly important to outline any styles and colours to enable me to create designs that I know will enhance your big day (and be worth the money too!) Before I get busy organising your wedding flowers, I take some time out to get creative with your event moodboard. This helps me to visualize the overall feel of the event ahead of time, as well as giving me a plan to refer back to throughout and keeping me on track!
Whatever you decide, your wedding day is unique to you. Embrace the planning process; I’m here to guide you at every step. Let the flowers speak for themselves and enrich your day!
